City of the Arts and Sciences

Walking tour around the City of the Arts and Sciences and guided tour inside the Oceanographic Park

The City of Arts and Sciences Valencia is an avant-garde construction, a magnificent new architecture with design by Santiago Calatrava. It is in a space for leisure where culture and scientific activities take the leading role, it is somewhere to learn and have fun at the same time, that bases its activities on three major themes:

Art, Science and Nature, three pillars of human knowledge at the service to all.

This spectacular complex is composed of the following buildings:

Umbracle

It was conceived as a panoramic promenade with a central tree-lined garden from which the whole complex can be looked over.

Hemispheric

The only facility in Spain to project three audiovisual shows on a huge concave 900 square meter screen: Planetarium, Imax Dome cinema and Laserium. The Hemispheric represents a giant human eye open onto the world.

Prince Philip Museum

It is a Science and Technology museum in which avantgarde architecture and interactive contents proper to the 21st century make Valencia an outstanding international landmark.

Palace of the Arts

This emblematic building is one of the most important artistic and cultural centres in the world: architecture, engineering and avant-garde technology trends. This construction stands out above the rest due to its magnificence and its different shapes. It provides a spectacular home for the performing arts of music, dance and theatre.

Agora

The iconic site most recently added to the City of Arts and Sciences is a huge, covered multi-purpose plaza, that allows the holding of varied events, like congresses, conventions, concerts and performances and exhibitions.

The Oceanographic Park

The Oceanographic Park is a genuine 80.000 square meter underwater city for visitors to be immersed and travel around the different ocean habitats found on our planets. It was inaugurated in February 2003 with an educational vocation that is to make the visitors aware of the need for protecting the fauna and flora.

The Oceanographic foundation was created with the commitment to protect the marine environment, contributing new knowledge, improving the care and awareness of the society.

You will make an underwater trip over the Europe’s largest aquarium for attractions, discovering the different aquariums:

  • Arctic and Antarctic with the beluga Whales and Penguins
  • Oceans with sand tiger sharks
  • Temperarte and Tropical Seas
  • Wetlands
  • See lions Island, and others…
  • The Dolphinarium (a dolphin exhibit is also included in this visit).

There is an Underwater (Submarino) Restaurant, the most emblematic buildings in the Oceanogràfic because of its unusual roof, designed by architect Félix Candela. The aquarium on the lower level reproduces an ocean setting of open waters containing thousands of pelagic fish
